Vacuum-Formed Removable Rigid Dressing Compared with Conventional Rigid Dressing After Transtibial Amputation
Anton Johannesson, CPO

Following transtibial amputation, rigid dressing of plaster of Paris has been reported to have advantages over soft dressing regarding wound healing and edema reduction but its use may be limited by application and wound access difficulties. An easily applicable and removable vacuum-formed rigid dressing (ORRD) has been introduced. Review results of this randomized trial of 27 subjects that compared vacuum-formed removable rigid dressing with conventional plaster of Paris rigid dressing after transtibial amputation.

The Effects of Ankle Foot Orthosis on Gait Parameters of Acute and Chronic Hemiplegic Subjects
Jason Wening, MS, CP

Individuals with Hemiplegic gait patterns post cerebral vascular accident (CVA) are often prescribed an AFO to aid in the return to ambulation. Review results of this study of 25 subjects that tested the hypotheses that both acute and chronic subjects will improve with the utilization of a prescribed AFO and that chronic CVA subjects will have improved gait parameters relative to acute subjects both with and without an AFO.
